HOW LONG MUST I FEEL THIS?

“As long as you want” has been echoing in my mind since I first saw it in ``If Not Winter: Fragments of Sappho'' by Anne Carson perhaps a decade ago. What struck me was the simpleness of this phrase and how it can be applied to my every day, good and bad - I can feel these feelings as long as I want. For me, it gives me solace to know I have some sort of power over my mind. Even though external forces exert influences on me, worst case: triggering me into a fight or flight when I regain my senses I have the power to heal from that trauma and hopefully learn from it.

Like I spoke about in the past few weeks, I’ve been having a rough time. Every day the feelings change in my mind from blaming myself, to the world, to feeling the futility of it all. I’m in the surrendering portion of the process. What happened has happened, and I cannot change what has, but can I learn from it. 

How long must I feel this part of the process? As long as I want.
